El Centro Latino was founded in 1969 by a small group of Puerto Rican migrants to address the immediate needs of their community as members adapted to life in a new country and, in most cases, a new language. The Delaware Hispanic Commission is partnering with $tand By Me, a financial program sponsored by the state and United Way of Delaware, to offer $tand By Me Hispano to increase economic security of Delaware’s Hispanic immigrants. The program offers one-on-one personal financial coaching in Spanish, on location, in communities and educational institutions across the state. In addition to the coaching that helps individuals deal with personal finances, the program offers workshops on budgeting, navigating the financial system in the United States, avoiding predatory financial services, and building credit. Workshops are offered in English and/or Spanish in partnership with the Delaware Department of Adult Education, ESL classes. Workshop participants may choose to meet with the coach personally after attending a group session. The program is designed to address the financial challenges of immigrants, such as sharing living costs with other families, sending money home and avoiding scams.

La Comisión Hispana de Delaware mantiene una alianza con $tand By Me, un programa financiero patrocinado por el estado y United Way of Delaware, para ofrecer $tand By Me Hispano con el objetivo de incrementar la seguridad económica de los inmigrantes de habla hispana de Delaware. El programa ofrece asesoramiento financiero personalizado en español, en oficinas propias, comunidades e instituciones educativas en todo el estado. Además del asesoramiento que ayuda a las personas a lidiar con asuntos financieros personales, el programa ofrece talleres sobre cómo administrar presupuestos, navegar el sistema financiero en los Estados Unidos, evitar servicios financieros abusivos y generar capacidad crediticia. Los talleres se dan en inglés y/o español gracias a una alianza con el Departamento de Educación para Adultos de Delaware y sus clases de inglés como segunda lengua (ESL). Los participantes de los talleres pueden optar por reunirse personalmente con el asesor después de asistir a una sesión grupal. El programa está diseñado para abordar los problemas financieros de los inmigrantes, como compartir el costo de vida con otras familias, transferir dinero a casa y evitar estafas.
